Whew...

We are finally here in Guangzhou and through the awful medical exam!
We had a lot of adventures in the Nanjing airport. Tickets with names in the wrong order, running across a chinese airport to buy the last seat on the plane, being stopped by security due to a bullet casing in a bag....it goes on and on...One of the highlights was me sitting on the floor of the airport bathroom (no changing tables in China) changing Yangyang with about 4 chinese ladies standing in a half circle around me critisizing my technique! Hehee...

Actually everyone has been awsome here and in Nanjing. It may take a few people to get across what you want, but it gets done...mostly :-)

Yangyang did awsome on the plane...even after sitting and waiting for the plane to board since it had not only been delayed but changed gates for some reason as well....It was really late when we got in, and Yangyang fell asleep in the van on the way to the hotel. He then thought that was a nap and was up till 12:30 am just chatting away!

We are now at the Marriott China hotel. It is incredible. I have never seen a larger hotel in my life. Thanks to Tims Aunt and uncle we are stayin not only for free, but they upgraded us to an executive suite...wooo hoo...we are hanging with the rich now! I will post pictures of the hotel soon...it is awsome!

Today was the dreaded medical exam. Imagine over 50 families squeezed into a small office all with screaming babies and kids and you will get some idea of the morning we had! Yang Yang was a trooper and even through all the many shots and TB test, he did well. He cried/screamed for about 10 minutes and then was back to his smiling self again!! I can honestly say I am SO glad that is over with!

Tonight we met up with our travel mates again (they are staying at a different hotel) and went to dinner to a very famous Cantonese cuisine resturant near our hotel. We were the only western people in the resturant...they sat us in the middle too...We had a ball. No one spoke any real english, and the menu was all in Chinese as well. There were pictures but when I went to order rice, the server did manage to get across that it had eel in it, by pointing at the fish tank and saying live snake. Yuck!

Some very nice gentleman was sitting at the table behind us and asked us if we would like help with ordering. That being done the food was incredible! I want to go back!! I think we fed all 6 of us for 30 dollars american. We had 6 dishes (all served family style) 2 large bottles of coke (1 liter bottles) and 2 really large beers for the guys! Yummm. It is a great experience for me to go there and not be able to communicate besides very basic things. Think of what my son is going through to be in that situation all the time. Luckily we all are just relaxed and enjoyed the humor in it all!!

Tomorrow we are going touring again, and are excited about that. We also want to explore the area that we are in. We were a bit nervous about staying off of the island that all the other adoptive families stay, but I am totally loving it! They have a great subway system and cabs are cheap and plentiful. I spent time on the island today and while it is beautiful and peaceful, mostly it is shopping. I like shopping, but like "real china" a lot better!

Here are some pictures from the day:

Amy - I love getting updates about your trip and seeing the pictures with you and your little guy! I just can't wait to hear about this new phase-in-life first-hand. We'll have to do a special Mom's Night when you're back and up for it!
